The VMI Pipe Band, which serves as musical ambassadors throughout the United States, has recently added Scottish authenticity to its ranks in the form of its new director, Maj. Brian Donaldson.

The show is a revue of military life in sketches that include satire, humor, poetry, drama, and music. This year marks the eighth edition of the show, and features lively moments from the American Revolution through World War II, and offers a variety of tunes that were popular during those times.

Chris Kushner ’24, a biology major and honors student at Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute, took his research and some creativity to a recent virtual conference and came away with deserved recognition from the judges.

The women of VMI were celebrated on post Sept. 8-10, with more than 200 alumnae and their families returning to Lexington. Alumnae panels offered insight on post-graduation paths, highlighting how the VMI experience helped them get to where they are today.

The Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute Board of Visitors voted unanimously to honor Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III ’62, superintendent emeritus, with the school’s highest honor, the New Market Medal.

The ProCyEd (Professional requirements to Cybersecurity Education) Research team at Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute hosted its first Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) Symposium on Sept. 21 in Marshall Hall. VMI participants demonstrated their research activities, products, demos, and posters.

Col. Spencer Bakich, professor of international studies at Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute and the director of the national security minor, will discuss U.S. and China tensions on the public radio program With Good Reason.

Maj. Shannon Quevedo, assistant professor in the chemistry department at Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute and whose specialty is analytical chemistry and detection of small molecules using organic phases, is working on research with two cadets to create handheld methods for testing water.

The George C. Marshall Foundation will host, Gen. John F. Shortal for a Legacy Lecture on his book, “Code Name Arcadia: The First Wartime Conference of Churchill and Roosevelt.”

Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute has retained its high placing among the nation’s best colleges, according to college rankings released this week by U.S News and World Report. Among public liberal arts colleges, the Institute ranked fourth.
