VMI Community Updates

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at large:

  • Trail Congestion Notice: The Woods Creek Trail will be congested the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 13, from approximately 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. due to a cadet training event. 
  • Spring Open House Spaces Available: VMI Open Houses are the best way for high school juniors and seniors to see and experience first-hand what it's like being a cadet at VMI. During this 2-day program, students will learn about all aspects of the VMI experience and stay overnight in Barracks with a current cadet as a host. Learn more and register today.
  • Scholarship Opportunities: Are you applying to VMI as a recipient of a three or four-year ROTC national scholarship? If so, explore how the Institute can help ease the cost of your education at No Ordinary College through the Call to Duty Scholarship, now accepting applications. VMI also offers a number of merit-based scholarships to top academic talent. Explore the Institute Scholar and Peay Merit Scholarship opportunities for more details and requirements.
  • Graduation Photos and Streams: Congratulations to the most recent young men and women to earn the title of VMI graduate. If you missed the events, you can still watch the replays of commissioning on and commencement on . Photo albums are also available on the Institute's .
  • Updated Cadet Mail Instructions: As of December 1, 2025, a new format is in place for addressing mail to VMI cadets to ensure proper handling by the United States Postal Service (USPS) as packages are routed to VMI. Find full instructions and proper formatting on the Contacting Cadets page.

A Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute 4th Class cadet, Caoilinn McLane, had the honor of introducing the First Lady of the United States when she arrived to Children’s National Hospital (CNH) in Washington, D.C. for her holiday visit in December.

VMI to Hold Spring Musical Auditions for 1776

The VMI Community Theatre will hold auditions for its spring show, “1776.” Cadets and community members may audition any of the four evenings. Multiple adult male and female roles will be cast.

Cadets to March in Governor’s Inauguration Parade

The Â鶹ŮÑÝÔ± Institute Corps of Cadets will march in Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger’s inauguration parade through Capitol Square in Richmond, Saturday, Jan. 17.

Crump reflects on “Defender of the Nation” experience

In October, VMI Football player Kouri Crump was named the recipient of the prestigious Defender of the Nation Award. Monday Dec. 8, Crump, his family and select teammates attended the Bronko Nagurski Banquet presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club where he was officially presented with the award.
