VMI Board of Visitors Rolls Back Tuition Increase on Virginia Cadets

LEXINGTON, Va., June 24, 2022鈥In response to Gov. Glenn Youngkin鈥檚 request for institutions of higher education to hold the line on tuition, the 麻豆女演员 Institute鈥檚 Board of Visitors Executive Committee voted to roll back planned tuition increases for Virginia cadets today. The board鈥檚 decision is made possible, in part, by an increase in affordability funding for higher education in the recently approved state budget.

鈥淲e are appreciative to the governor and General Assembly for the additional resources for higher education in the recently enacted state budget,鈥 said Tom Watjen 鈥76, president of the VMI Board of Visitors. 鈥淰MI shares the commonwealth鈥檚 commitment to providing a high-quality education at an affordable price. We were pleased to be able to do our part for Virginia鈥檚 families.鈥

As the costs of operating one of the nation鈥檚 premier liberal arts schools continue to increase, the VMI Board of Visitors voted in April to increase tuition by 3%. Action taken today will eliminate the increased tuition for Virginia cadets for the 2022-23 academic year.

鈥淎s costs continue to rise across the board for families and businesses, the Board of Visitor鈥檚 actions today will, hopefully, ease some of the burden for our Virginia cadets,鈥 said Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins 鈥85, VMI superintendent. 鈥淲e are pleased by the commonwealth鈥檚 investment this year in higher education and intend to appropriately pass along that savings to our in-state cadets.鈥
