VMI Professor to Speak on ‘With Good Reason’

LEXINGTON, Va., Dec. 7, 2020鈥擫t. Col. Julie Phillips Brown, associate professor of English and fine arts at 麻豆女演员 Institute, will be featured on public radio鈥檚 With Good Reason Dec. 12-18, in an episode titled 鈥淲riting Through.鈥

On the show, Brown discusses her recent manuscript of poems, Chimera, drawing connections between the mythological Chimera and motherhood, and exploring how poetry reveals what makes us uniquely human. Brown鈥檚 debut collection of poems, The Adjacent Possible, won the 2019 Hopper Poetry Prize for environmental writing and will be published by Green Writers Press in 2021.

In Lexington, the show will air Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. on WMRA 89.9 FM. In Charlottesville, it can be heard at the same times on WMRA 103.5 FM, and also at 2 p.m. Sunday on Radio IQ 88.5 FM. In Harrisonburg, With Good Reason will air Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. on WMRA 90.7 FM.

In addition to Brown, other writers heard on this episode include poet and writer Louis Gallo, of Radford University; playwright Ivan Rodden, of Christopher Newport University; and poet Caseyren茅e Lopez, of John Tyler Community College.
